H :^) .. H :^| .... H :( H| *splat*

I can't think of a topic to go with this title, yet. It was a story on Fark.
A girder fell on some guy's head. Hence, the *splat*.

I'll think of something.

That's my pen

A colleague of mine, without thinking, took my pen.
+++++
It was a "Gentleman's pen", as my landlord in Dolphin's Barn said to me.
Forget, the wiki. It was a deathtrap. And a scene out of the Commitments. We got robbed. It was The General's hangout, to be sure. Near the Kevin St. Garda Station.
+++++
Reminded me of the Kids in the Hall.
I'm getting old. To remember such things.

If you believe...

There is a man on the moon.
REM. Saw them in Montreal too long ago.
My opinion, best live:
The Hip.
Worst live:
Chilies.
Oh, forgot about U2, and Big Sugar. In the good category.

This one rates...

Up there.
A design colleague found this one.
On my rating scale > Immersibilty, Content (depth, breadth, recency), Capability (tools), Community (talk?).
It's an
eleventy!!

Pour une ami, anon

So, I'm tired. Aren't we all? An ode to a friend of mine.

1. Cinnamon girl
2. Waterworks
3. Hope
4. Solace

The south of France, with a good book, and delicious company. Sounds like a good idea to me.

The end of the world

WTF is going on? First, the junta steals aid and won't let us help. Then, China. Today I read about South Africa. Plus, Canada lost. Sigh, I'd like to go back to bed.

The Fighters of Foo

I can remember watching Dave talking to Dave: Dave the second said: "Not only do you rock but you are the fighters of FOO!". Or something like that. The point: Nirvana + post-grunge + (recent) influences + sonic perfection = GIV'R.

Horns.

Lorne Greene

I used to watch this when I was a kid. I picked up the pilot of the new series a while back and proceeded to watch the first two seasons in about 2 weeks. Story arc, relevancy, subtle political relevancy, the actors, all of it. This is good visual drama. Plus, Number 6 is drop dead gorgeous. Recommended. Don't try to talk to me at 19:00 EST on Fridays. I'm fraking busy.

Oh yeah, the show is shot in Vancouver. And, employs Canuck actors. All good.

Chartjunk

Ever want to know why the Challenger space shuttle blew up? And why NASA did it again? Tufte offers an interesting explanation and critique. All boils down to "chartjunk".

Psycho Dem killer

This made me laugh. I read it on Wil's site. Was it ego, captain? We each have our reasons...Hubris, myopia, idiocy. All of the above. Hillary may be a psycho ex-girlfriend - she's just gonna keep calling and calling until we move or put a restraining order on her.

Quality Assurance

Remember the old days when in order to test an online application on various platforms, operating systems and Internet browsers, you had to physically move from computer to computer, and install multiple browsers on the same machine? Not any more. A colleague showed me this today. Cool!

It's all about pictures

There is a new book out called Back of the Napkin. A little more lowbrow than Tufte and his escape from flatland, but an engaging read. Draw a picture, it's good for you.

Drucker

I'm going to attempt to do this on a semi-regular basis.

Ever hear of Peter Drucker? Sigh. A management consultant and thinker, he thought economists were full of hooey. When you go to business school, you learn about Drucker and Management by Objectives. At his best, he just tells us to keep it simple and smart.

Update: I always screw this up, even though it's so simple: "Efficiency is doing things right, Effectiveness is doing the right things."
